What is Media Informatics?
Media informatics combines contents from the classical study of computer science with the artistic aspects of media design and findings from perceptual psychology. Media Informatics students therefore have to master the theoretical and practical basics of computer science. However, they also deal with the creative and social questions of digital media and investigate how communication between humans and machines can be improved.
The study programme is very practice-oriented with project work in small teams. Here, the students get to know the professional handling of multimedia technologies, e.g. for audio and image processing. They can also participate in research projects at an early stage.
According to the CHE university ranking, computer science in Saarbrücken is the leader in Germany. On the university campus there are several internationally known computer science research institutes as well as the excellence cluster "Multimodal Computing and Interaction".

- Computer Science (approx. 40%)
- Multimedia (approx. 30%)
- Professional practice (approx. 20%)
- Mathematics (approx. 10%)
The vocational and scientific training prepares graduates for a wide range of applications in research, industry and the service sector.
Potential employers for media computer scientists are multimedia companies, advertising agencies or companies for software development and telecommunications. In addition, their knowledge is in demand in broadcasting corporations and publishing houses as well as with the internal training of enterprises.
